If you're looking for a great taco place, look elsewhere. I ordered the Carne and Duck taco's. The Carne taco was extremely greasy and overcooked to the point where the taco itself was just chewy. The Duck taco was a little better in terms of flavor but still had way too much grease. When we brought this to the servers attention, he said "oh yeah, I can see that", grabbed the tray and walked away. I really think our situation could have been better if a manager at least attempted to address our concerns.
Also, the salsa was watery. The only good thing about this place was the Margarita. -

Writing this review hurts. We are big fans of all Jason Dady restaurants but this one reaaaaaaally missed the mark.
We came on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. Ordered four different tacos (duck, pork belly, brisket and carne asada) and queso. When the tacos arrived, they were saturated with grease, like sitting in a pool of grease on our trays. I totally understand tacos can be greasy, but this was over the top. All our tacos were overly salted. My pork belly was mostly belly with little pork. The queso was our saving grace. There was another couple sitting next to us and they ordered the deviled eggs, a taco, and a quesadilla and even they were commenting about how greasy and salted their food was. It was all off putting.
I also tried their frozen margarita, which was more mix than tequila, then switched to a tequila soda which ended up being a tequila water because the club soda out of the gun was flat. $50 later, we found ourselves thinking that this visit was just a waste. We would not consider returning back to this restaurant. -

AVOID. There are too many great taco joints in Austin for this imposter to be taken seriously.
1. Undercooked par-boiled rice
2. BBQ that is clearly not fresh and is definitely store bought.
3. "Carne Guisada" that USED THE SAME BBQ MEAT that I just mentioned. Gross
4. Store bought uncooked tortillas that were under cooked. Someone needs to show these people how to make tortillas.
All of the food was REALLY salty. Never a good sign and screams that we were not eating fresh food.
I remember the previous restaurant in this space was an Irish pub. Good fish and chips, good shepherds pie, burgers, etc. Can we get that back please? Chispas isn't going to be around for very long. -

ONLY Positive - Restaurant Week deal and our server
Came to try this place out for the first time and when better than during restaurant week?! So the deal itself is great bc for $35 it's ALOT of food however the actual food was not so great...
They start you off with chips and salsa and then first course is queso, guac and elote. Queso was awful (and I LOVE cheese so that's saying something). Guac was tasty and elote was good as well, but paired with stale tostadas.
Second course was soup or salad - I went with the tortilla soup...probably one of the worst I've ever had. My friends salad looked blah too.
Third course was your choice of 3 tacos - went with the carne asada, Duck confit and Baja pescado. The flour tortillas were literally awful - hard and cold! The duck confit taco was also terrible. Pescado wasn't too bad but the tortilla kinda ruined it.
Fourth course was a Nutella tiny phyllo shell (random dessert for a taco place?).
Sorry but there's wayyyy too many great restaurants in Austin - definitely will not be coming back.
